Transport for NSW required urgent remediation works to repair the 2-Mile section of Jenolan Caves Road following its failure after heavy rainfall in March 2021. Given the significance of Jenolan Caves Reserve, within the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, an assessment of the heritage impact of the works was required. MTS Heritage was engaged by Transport for NSW to prepare a Statement of Heritage Impact report to support a S.60 Application to the NSW Heritage Council. The assessment considered a number of remediation options to repair the damaged section of road and assessed the potential impacts of the preferred option. Mitigation measures to ensure the repair did not result in a significant impact to the landscape heritage values of the Reserve or views from Caves House were provided. The assessment involved consultation with Heritage NSW, which was initiated by MTS Heritage.

Responsibilities included: Liaison with Transport for NSW and Heritage NSW. Preparation of a Statement of Heritage Impact report that assessed the impact of the works on the State heritage values of Jenolan Caves Reserve and the National and World heritage values of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
